Traditional Climbing Course

Experience climbing like the pioneers. The most sustainable style of all, where the lead climber places all the necessary gear to secure themselves and progress. Afterwards, all this equipment is removed by the following group members as they ascend. The ideal of this style has always been to leave no trace of the rope team’s passage on the rock.

Course Introduction

Traditional climbing — also known as “trad” or “classic” — is one of the most technical and adventurous forms of rock climbing. Unlike sport climbing, here the protection is not fixed to the wall: it is the climber who places and manages it during the ascent.

This course is designed for climbers who already have experience in sport climbing or multi-pitch climbing and want to make the leap to adventure routes with more autonomy and technical knowledge.

You will learn to place friends and nuts, build solid anchors, interpret cracks, and protect a route with good judgment and safety.

The goal is to provide you with a solid technical foundation so you can start climbing traditional routes with confidence and understand the logic of this much more committed and alpine climbing style.

Aleix Vilardebò | Mountain Gourmand

I am your guide

After more than twenty years of climbing and the last few years guiding people in the mountains, I can say that this is what I am truly passionate about. Sharing experiences, training, and accompanying others comes naturally to me.

Just as many people in the world of mountains and climbing have shared their knowledge with me over the years, I also like to pass it on to help others gain autonomy, confidence, and safety.

Because, ultimately, it’s about enjoying the journey, moving freely, and feeling comfortable doing what we love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous experience?

Yes. It is advisable to have experience in sport climbing and know how to belay independently before starting a traditional climbing course. But you don’t need to have ever placed a single friend or nut.

Traditional climbing requires more technical knowledge and decision-making ability, but with good training and appropriate progression, it can be practiced safely.

Do I need my own gear?

Not necessarily. Specific technical equipment can be provided during the activity.

It will depend on the level and objectives of the course. Both short learning routes and an introduction to traditional multi-pitch routes can be done.
